Interviewer: Jody, can you start by explaining why it's important to consider and understand quality when you're looking at office furniture?
JE: It’s beneficial to understand what quality commercial furniture means. Commercial-grade furniture quality is very different than residential furniture [quality].
Businesses need furniture that's going to stand up to wear and tear for the long term. They need to know that if they're investing in the right furniture in the beginning, it's going to save them time, money and hassle down the line.
And the most important thing is that high cost doesn't guarantee high-quality [furniture].
3 Ways to Check the Quality of Commercial Furniture
Interviewer: What are some things to look for when you're shopping for quality office furniture?
1. Is It Commercial Grade?
JE: One of the things to look for would be, is [the product] commercial grade? There's testing out there that guarantees levels of quality, called ANSI/BIFMA, and the testing will support weight, durability and safety. [That’s why it is] one of the most important things to look for — if it has any testing done on it to guarantee that it's safe and that it will meet your needs.
2. What Are the Finishes and Materials Used?
JE: The second thing [to look for] would be the material and finishes [of the product(s)].
3. Is There a Brand Warranty?
JE: The last [thing to look for] for me would be a warranty. If the brand has a warranty on the furniture, it shows that they are proud to back that furniture and they expect it to last.
